It pings without problems.Īt this point, the dmesg output would be helpful to diagnose what is happening. I reboot the PC into system rescue cd USB. But I plug it back into my Gentoo PC, and try the ifconfig down and up, it still fails. I just tried to plug the same cable into my other laptop (with wifi off), the laptop gets a valid address from DHCP and able to access the Internet. I have a few wireless devices connecting to the same router using DHCP having no problems. Those that have never had a hard drive fail. That it fails after some manual setup points to a communication failure. Is the router working with other devices?ĭo yon have several ethernet cards and the cable is connected to the wrong one? So why does it fail co connect to the router? Your system cannot contact the router for dhcpcd to set up your network, so it sets itself a link local address, that's the 169.254.0.0/16 range. Seriously try to find the real issue of why DHCP and other connectivity is not working Try using 'ip address' to add, delete, replace and/or flush addresses more effectively. This is the fallback address assigned when a DHCP client cannot find a DHCP server.Īs for the manual config, you added a new address but never removed the old one. ![]() Last edited by midnite on Fri 7:55 pm edited 1 time in total What else can I do to make enp3s0 connects to the Internet again? IP is set, but the ping is still not reachable. Recently when my system starts up, it gets the IP address .x and cannot ping to my router. I was using DHCP with mostly the standard setup. ![]() Posted: Mon 8:06 pm Post subject: Ethernet behaviour abnormal (stuck in .x) ![]() Gentoo Forums Forum Index Networking & Security Ethernet behaviour abnormal (stuck in .x) Gentoo Forums :: View topic - Ethernet behaviour abnormal (stuck in .x) ![]()
